Travel Apps

Here is an ever expanding list of travel apps that you can use to assist you to plan, book and explore. I have used these apps to varying degrees while I am at home planning, but more specifically on the road traveling. I will continue to add relevant apps as I come across them. Please feel free to Contact Me if I am missing an app that you would recommend. I have broken them down into categories to make searching easier.

Booking – Multiple Services

Expedia App – From the app you can book flights, hotels, excursions and much more. Booking through the mobile app will earn extra points (3x) compared to booking on the website. Getting the credit card will also increase your points earning.

Kayak App – Another good booking app that I use to cross compare with other competing sites. I tend to find good deals, but the lack of a points earning system is disappointing. The biggest drawback of the app compared to my favorite feature of the website is the lack of the comparative calendar price chart feature.

Connecting & Networking

Travello App – “Find like-minded travelers, no matter where in the world you are! Travello allows travelers to discover and connect with other like-minded travelers. No matter what type of traveller you are, Travello has you covered.” I am an ambassador for Travello and highly recommend you give it a try! If you have any questions feel free to Contact Me.

Converters

Units Plus -This is free version of Units Plus Converter. I have used it throughout my travels and have never felt it necessary to upgrade to the Pro version. Conversions include: Area, Currency*, Data, Fuel, Length, Power, Pressure, Speed, Temperature, Time, Volume and Weight. Note: The link above will direct you to the Apple app. The Android version looks similar, but is not made by the same developer so I cannot endorse it.

XE.com Currency Converter App – One of the best up to the minute live currency conversion websites created a user friendly app with the same features. You can add up to 10 currencies with the free version. I have found no need to upgrade to the Pro version.

Flying the Friendly Skies

FlightTrack App – This app allows you to track flights with a user friendly color coded system that alerts you of flight times and delays. You can search your own flights, those of your friends and family or randomly follow airplanes fly around the world.

Skyscanner App – Looking for cheap flights try this app. They offer a search “everywhere” feature that lets you enter a departure city and date. Then you will be redirected to the cheapest flights worldwide based on the information you input. It’s a great option for travelers looking to explore who have no specific destination in mind or anyone who wants to leave their current location.

General Trip Planning & Advice

TripAdvisor App – The app is just like the travel website. It provides user generated reviews of travel related content. I mostly use the app to search restaurants and hotel information, but there are many other features. Check out My TripAdvisor Profile !

Viator App – You can book tours, day trips, excursions, helicopter rides, boat rides, show tickets and more for countless destinations worldwide. Primarily I find the Attractions section helpful during planning on the go and if you have GPS available which many carriers provide for free if the settings on your phone are adjusted correctly the Map section pins key attractions allowing you to use it as a navigational tool.

Hotel Booking Sites

Booking.com App – I’ve used this app a number of times to book hotels on the road. They do not charge a booking fee to customers, but charges commission on bookings to accommodation partners.
